Biennale dello Stretto: Mutations

La Biennale dello Stretto 2026 opens tomorrow, with a five-day programme of events and a conference dedicated to the theme ‘Mutations’, curated by Alfonso Femia, Annalisa Metta and Salima Naji.

The MIC-HUB City Futures Research Lab department is the curator of the thematic section dedicated to mobility. ‘Stories of Voices and Infrastructure’ offers a broader perspective on Mediterranean and Strait mobility, exploring the current transformations in the logic of movement beyond an exclusively engineering and function-based interpretation.

From this perspective, mobility itself becomes a narrative device, offering a fresh interpretation of the landscape through the rhythms of life, the quality of time and the relationships between territories, communities and the future.

Federico Parolotto (CEO of MIC-HUB) and Delia Valastro (Senior Researcher at the City Futures Research Lab) have curated the mobility session together with the MIC-HUB working group.

On Sunday 20 September at 3 pm at Forte Batteria Siacci in Campo Calabro, there will be a presentation of research entitled ‘Mobility as a catalyst for urban transformation’, featuring:

Farzaneh Bahrami, researcher and assistant professor of urban design and mobility at the University of Groningen;

Ruben Baiocco, an architect and professor of Urban Planning at the University of Milan;

Lorenzo Fabian, an architect and professor of Urban Planning at the IUAV University of Venice;

Mauro Francesco Minervino, anthropologist and writer;

Moderated by Federico Parolotto and Delia Valastro.

We are honoured to be contributing to this ambitious cultural project, which aims to showcase international perspectives on the future by placing the regions of the Strait and the Mediterranean at the centre of the discussion, while encouraging extensive contemplation on the interplay between architecture, infrastructure, landscape, art, society, and transformation.
