Esplorazioni Urbane
In association with Radical Flows and Oneworks Foundation, MIC-HUB last week hosted Esplorazioni Urbane, a research laboratory on Milan’s public space, inviting researchers, designers, architects, activists, institutions and cultural organisations.
We explored six interconnected themes shaping the future of the city:
Stare (Belonging), Ombra / Acqua (Climate), Movimento (Movement), Desiderio (Desire), Cura (Care), Confini (Boundaries).
A moderator and a spokesperson guided each table, creating a space for the exchange of perspectives and the emergence of new ideas.
MIC-HUB and Fondazione Mobilità in Città contributed to the conversation, offering different perspectives.
MIC-HUB CEO, Federico Parolotto, moderated the roundtable on Movement, guiding a discussion on the relationship between mobility, public space and urban life.
Gaia Sgaramella, Director of the Foundation, took part in that discussion, explaining the importance of a change in mobility to transform our cities into accessible and liveable places for everyone.
Delia Valastro, Senior Researcher at City Futures Research Lab, contributed to the Belonging discussion, bringing insights into how people experience, inhabit and connect with the city.
Rather than providing predefined solutions, the format encouraged participants to interpret each theme based on their own experiences and areas of expertise.
One idea emerged across all conversations: mobility is never only about transport.
It influences who feels welcome in public space, who can access opportunities, who feels safe, who can stay, and who is excluded.
From climate adaptation and accessibility to social relationships and civic participation, movement connects many of the challenges that cities face today.
