Masterplan for Hunnu City, Mongolia

MIC-HUB is part of the winning team, led by Bechu & Associés, in the international competition for the master plan of Hunnu City, a visionary new city in Mongolia.

We have designed a city where the transport focus is not just on getting around, but more on creating a seamlessly connected, accessible and sustainable community.

Public transport, micro mobility, walkability, and infrastructures as public spaces are at the heart of our approach, ensuring that every movement within the city is in harmony with the environment.

Located south of Ulaanbaatar and close to the new Chinggis Khaan International Airport, Hunnu City is Mongolia’s new territorial capital. Fully aligned with the country’s national Vision 2050 strategy, the city aspires to become a model of regenerative urbanism adapted to Mongolia’s extreme climatic conditions.

Our winning proposal, ‘A new steppe of constellations. A living story, born from the Steppes, shaped by nature and built for the people’, was selected from 43 teams from 21 countries. It envisages a biomimetic, fully regenerative city, drawing inspiration from the heritage of the Hunnu people.

At the heart of the project is the Amid Od, literally ‘stars of life’, which structure the entire city. Inspired by the ger (Mongolian yurts), these circular centres form an urban constellation, representing new landmarks and identity symbols for future generations.

As true engines of the 15-minute city, each Amid Od ensures proximity access to healthcare, education, culture, work, sports, and soft mobility. These centres are embedded within a living fabric that connects neighbourhoods like the points of a constellation.

In Hunnu City, people, nature, and mobility will coexist, fostering a sense of belonging and community.
MIC-HUB collaborated with the international team to define the mobility and transport strategy of this visionary project.

The project team is led by the architecture & urban planning firm Bechu & Associés and consists of:

SOA Architecture, associate firm, for architecture

IQP Italdesign, associate firm, for architecture

MIC-HUB, for mobility and transport

Parc Nouveau, for landscape

Atelier Ten, for environmental and technical engineering

Robert Bird Group, for engineering and infrastructures

Future Food Institute, for food systems transition

Embix, for smart grid and energy

The Climate Company, for climate modelling and adaptation

“Hunnu City is not just an urban project: it is a city born from Mongolian soil, from its history, its cycles, and its living wisdom. Working with an outstanding international team, we sought to create a regenerative model that gives back more than it takes, and that celebrates the uniqueness, strength, and timeless richness of Mongolian culture” - Clémence Bechu, General Director of Bechu & Associés
