Masterplan for the regeneration of the Aurora and Barriera di Milano neighbourhoods in Turin

Corso Palermo, north of the city centre of Turin, has long been defined by the cars, buses and general traffic passing through it.

The new masterplan for Corso Palermo proposes a transformation of the three kilometres between Aurora and Barriera di Milano, which will reconnect the axis and return the street to the people who live and move along it every day.

The masterplan emerged from a participatory process with residents, who provided ideas and suggestions that were partially incorporated into the project.

The project includes greener, more liveable urban spaces, a new cycle path, a large urban graffiti project, 400 new trees, improved lighting and the regeneration of disused spaces and closed premises.

These proposed interventions will involve another participatory process to engage the residents of the two neighbourhoods in the changes, as well as specific initiatives for adolescents and young people.

The masterplan was entrusted to Infra.To, who in turn commissioned a multidisciplinary team, comprising the architectural studio CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati, the cooperative Liberitutti for the community engagement, West8 for the landscape design and MIC-HUB for the mobility strategies.

The delivery of the master plan to the city marked the beginning of the first phase of the project.
