Redevelopment of the Porta Vescovo area, Verona

The design phase for the redevelopment of Porta Vescovo, one of Verona’s most complex and strategically important transport hubs, has begun. The project aims to create a safer, more accessible and more welcoming urban environment.

Situated to the east of the historic city centre and alongside the ancient city walls, Porta Vescovo is one of the main gateways to the historic core of Verona and a vital link between the city centre and its eastern districts.

MIC-HUB has been commissioned by the Municipality of Verona and AMT3 to develop the Technical and Economic Feasibility Design (PFTE) and the Detailed Design. The aim is to transform the area from a traffic-dominated urban boundary into a new focal point for city life that is integrated into Verona’s future mobility network.

The project will rethink the relationship between the road network and public space, integrating the future trolleybus system into a safer, more accessible, higher-quality urban environment.

The key design priorities are:

• Reorganising traffic circulation and improving safety for all road users;

• Ehancing accessibility and continuity of pedestrian routes;

• Upgrading public spaces with new paving, green areas and street furniture;

• Modernising public lighting, traffic signals and drainage infrastructure;

• The removal of existing pedestrian underpasses will be assessed to improve street-level accessibility.

The aim is to transform Porta Vescovo from a traffic-dominated junction into a high-quality urban space designed to meet the city’s current and future requirements.
