Transport Planning for Road Safety: From Theory to Practice, Politecnico di Milano

We are delighted to present the new edition of ‘Transport Planning for Road Safety: From Theory to Practice’, a workshop held by MIC-HUB City Futures Research Lab at Politecnico di Milano.

Safer streets are not just a design challenge: they are also a matter of equity, accessibility, and justice.

In car-centric cities, risk is not distributed equally. The unequal distribution of mobility resources exacerbates social exclusion and systemic inequalities, disproportionately affecting vulnerable communities.

This workshop offers participants the opportunity to critically engage with today’s mobility planning approaches and to investigate how urban space can better respond to the needs of vulnerable road users.

Through exploring traffic calming interventions, 30 km/h zones, street redesign, spatial analysis and the use of accident evidence and socio-economic data, participants will gain an understanding of the role of transport planning in promoting sustainable, liveable and equitable communities.

The workshop aims to challenge prevailing paradigms that perpetuate unequal mobility distribution and to address mobility injustice in planning, design and policy-making. With a particulat focus on active mobility users, participants will explore how to translate data into action and develop evidence-based proposals for safer, more sustainable and equitable urban mobility.
