Re-CODING INFRASTRUCTURE Thematic Studio

Delia Valastro, Senior Researcher at the MIC-HUB City Futures Research Lab, was at Politecnico di Milano in her role as tutor, taking part in the final reviews and evaluations of the Re-CODING INFRASTRUCTURE Thematic Studio Master’s programme in Architecture, Infrastructure & Urban Form.

Re-CODING INFRASTRUCTURE: Towards a New Kind of Urban Prototype is a thematic studio led by Caterina Micucci, Atelier Atollo, Aubrey Leigh Toldi and Monica Manfredi.

The course investigates infrastructure as a new typological, systems-based and platform-driven construct, framing it as a deeply political entity that shapes how cities function, allocate resources and exercise power.

Focusing on the increasing invisibility of contemporary infrastructures, such as digital and data-related systems, the course invites students to consider architecture as a critical tool with which to reveal, interpret and transform these hidden networks.

The students presented works involving data centres, vertiports and emerging architectural forms that will transform territorial paradigms, exploring their spatial, social, and environmental impacts.
