A new ‘e-BRT’ service has been approved for the Italian city of Treviso
Treviso is preparing to transform urban mobility through a recently approved ‘e-BRT’ service.
This new BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) system will comprise high-capacity electric buses travelling on dedicated lanes for 65% of the route. The buses will have traffic light priority and will run every three to five minutes, offering highly competitive travel times compared to private cars.
The project, which seeks funding from the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, involves creating two interconnected lines, linking Treviso with Villorba, the airport, and railway station in Treviso, which will be the central node. The network will cover 28 km in total, with an initial capacity of approximately 1,400 passengers per hour in each direction on each line.
‘The project – explains Andrea De Checchi, Councillor for Mobility in Treviso – involves the municipalities of Treviso and Villorba, and is part of a broad vision that aims to reduce urban traffic, improve air quality and provide citizens with a modern, efficient and sustainable service’.
Treviso’s City Council recently approved the project, and MIC-HUB is collaborating with Mobilità di Marca (Mom), the local transport company, to develop the BRT system for transforming mobility in Treviso by 2030.
