Zaryadye Park, Moscow’s first new park in half a century, is located on a site of great cultural significance. It is surrounded by the Kremlin, Saint Basil’s Cathedral, Red Square, a row of Eastern Orthodox churches and the Moskva River.
The park is the missing link that completes the collection of world-famous monuments and urban districts that form central Moscow.
MIC-HUB was the transport consultant for the winning Zaryadye Park design, working with the team led by architect Diller Scofidio + Renfro.
The design team conceived the 35-acre park as a democratic space for Muscovites and visitors to enjoy. Zaryadye Park blurs the boundaries between hardscape and landscape, seamlessly blending man-made and natural elements. Visitors can explore environments that recreate and celebrate the biodiversity of four Russian landscapes: tundra, steppe, forest and wetland.

Our contribution
MIC-HUB helped to redefine traffic flows, rebalance the surrounding streets in favour of pedestrian access, and encourage people to visit and explore the park.
The traffic congestion that once hindered pedestrians' enjoyment of the river's edge has been alleviated, and the Moskovorelskaya Embankment has been returned to the people as a lush, green parkway.
The Boulevard Ring has been completed, enabling residents and visitors alike to freely circumnavigate the heart of Moscow on foot or by bicycle.
Varvarka Street, which runs along the northern edge of the park, has been reimagined as a shared public space, where vehicles, slowed by the cobbled surface, share the road with cyclists and pedestrians. This extends the positive influence of the park to the surrounding neighbourhoods.
