Concept PUMS Segrate
Segrate, Italy
The Mobility Concept developed for the Municipality of Segrate establishes a strategic and operational framework for urban and wider-scale mobility. The aim is to make the system safer, more sustainable, more accessible, and better integrated.
Mobility is considered a vital component of quality of life and an instrument of urban transformation. The project is being implemented during a period of significant change, involving the integration of new infrastructure, cycle and pedestrian links, and improvements to local public transport.
Starting from the knowledge framework, the analysis covered traffic flows, pedestrian and cycle accessibility, local public transport and urban logistics.
The strategy promotes intermodal hubs as centres of mobility and urban regeneration, incorporating the Green Kilometre project as a cornerstone of the transformation process to ensure spatial and functional continuity, connecting residential areas, services, and urban attractions.
The strategy is based on data-driven approaches that take into account the needs of residents, businesses, and vulnerable users.
The initiative sets out guidelines for parking management and the planning of cycle routes and transport interchanges, focusing on the quality of public spaces and social equity.

Our contribution
MIC-HUB coordinated the development of strategic and operational guidelines for urban mobility. These guidelines were created by integrating quantitative and qualitative data from field surveys, sensors, questionnaires and traffic monitoring systems.
The team developed planning criteria for cycle and pedestrian routes, as well as intermodal hubs. These criteria took into account the safety of vulnerable road users, the continuity of traffic flows, and integration with local public transport.
Solutions were also proposed for parking management and urban logistics, focusing on environmental sustainability and the quality of public spaces.
MIC-HUB also provided methodological support for the use of smart mobility tools, including intelligent transport systems (ITS), traffic monitoring sensors and digital platforms for active and shared mobility.
This approach ensures more inclusive, safe, sustainable and multimodal mobility, capable of guiding Segrate towards a more accessible and efficient urban system.
