MIC-HUB supported the Municipality of Mantova in developing strategies for sustainable mobility and urban logistics, updating the SUMP traffic simulation model five years after its adoption.

The consultancy also included the analysis and definition of strategies to address the impacts of logistics and medium-sized retail facilities, as well as a study for the extension of the cycle network in the industrial areas to the east of the River Mincio.

The aim was to integrate new urban or infrastructural transformations while ensuring that growth scenarios remain consistent with planning priorities and the needs of a city increasingly focused on sustainability, accessibility, and quality of life.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

  • Strategic update of the SUMP traffic model, focusing on logistics and retail developments
  • Expansion of the cycle network in industrial and productive areas
  • Assessment of logistics and medium-sized retail facilities as key drivers of territorial transformation

Our contribution

The impact of logistics and medium-sized retail facilities was a central focus of the project, as these are key drivers of territorial transformation today.

While the development potential of logistics has significant local implications in terms of employment, it also poses risks related to land consumption, as well as impacting the environment, landscape and traffic. The study emphasised the importance of adhering to higher-level regulations and implementing best practices to effectively manage the transport-related aspects of logistics development.

The work was completed with the definition of specific sustainable mobility strategies, including the extension of the cycle network towards industrial and logistics hubs, and with a study to enhance the efficiency of the urban public transport system through redesigning routes and integrating parking shuttle services.

Meanwhile, MIC-HUB supported the Municipality in drafting the Workplace Travel Plan for municipal employees and in collecting mobility data from local companies.
