Parco Alpi Apuane Masterplan
Parco Regionale delle Alpi Apuane, Italy
As part of the team led by Carlo Ratti Associati, MIC-HUB helped develop the strategic masterplan to guide the development of the park, define shared objectives, and coordinate the territorial acupuncture actions for sustainable and integrated development.
The masterplan uses a layered analysis of the park to define objectives, organise guidelines, and coherently structure strategies and interventions in the territory.
The strategic guidelines establish a unified framework of objectives for protecting the natural heritage, making productive activities sustainable, strengthening the sociocultural identity, and improving the park’s accessibility.

Our contribution
For the Parco delle Alpi Apuane project, MIC-HUB supported CRA in assessing visitor flows and the main entry points to the park.
Using big data and analysing GPS signals, MIC-HUB helped to identify patterns in visitor movements.
This data-driven approach was essential for determining effective strategies to manage park accessibility, optimise visitor distribution and enhance the overall visitor experience, while preserving the environmental integrity of the area.
The analysis provided information on the park’s infrastructure, visitor flows and density, and identified the main entrances and most popular areas.
Priority areas for intervention are those characterised by high visitor flows with high concentrations of visitors. Here, solutions for managing visitor flows and infrastructure to support visitor use should be promoted. Areas with poor connectivity or fragmented connections offer opportunities for developing slow mobility networks.
