The Emaar Square project in the heart of Istanbul is one of the new centres that enriches the beauty of the city.

Emaar Square is a large mixed-use development located on the Asian side of the city, consisting of a lifestyle shopping mall (230,000 sqm GFA), two residential towers, and office and hotel towers, with a total construction area of approximately 717,000 sqm.

The design team, led by Iki Design Group, included Foster + Partners and DPA Architects.

Our contribution

MIC-HUB was the consultant for the car park and wayfinding strategy from concept to construction phase.

The car park, totalling approximately 6,200 parking spaces, is located in a five-storey underground structure below the three-storey retail deck, thereby extending eleven levels under ground. The project proved extremely challenging due to the car park's depth and the complex accessibility to the site, considering the dense urban fabric of Istanbul.

MIC-HUB defined the most efficient access solution through robust use of micro-simulation modelling, producing a design that allows major car flows to enter and move within the car park compound without traffic conflicts.

A particular challenge was the development of the complex system of cascading ramps running alongside the perimeter wall, which were designed to provide the greatest possible comfort, safety and speed when reaching the bottom level of the car park.

MIC-HUB also designed the loading area for commercial use and to serve the complex, as well as a wayfinding strategy.

This strategy included a visibility analysis to determine the optimal locations for vertical connections and the distribution of safe horizontal connections within the car park.
