The Emaar Square masterplan proved to be an extremely challenging for the extreme complexity of the access arrangement in a consolidated urban fabric of Istanbul.

The Emaar Square project is a large mixed-use development located on the Asian side of the city of Istanbul and consisting of a lifestyle shopping mall (230,000 sqm GFA), two residential towers and office and hotel towers, with a total construction area of approximately 717,000 sqm.

The design team, led by Iki Design Group, included Foster + Partners and DPA Architects.

Emaar Square is located in the heart of the city and is one of the new centres that will enrich the beauty of Istanbul.

Our contribution

From concept to construction phase, MIC-HUB was the car park consultant of an international design group, based partly in Turkey, Singapore and London.

The car park, totalling approximately 6200 parking spaces, is located in a 5-storey underground structure below the 3-storey retail deck, extending 11 levels under ground level. The project proved to be extremely challenging due to the depth of the car park and the extreme complexity of the access arrangement in a consolidated urban fabric.

Through robust use of micro-simulation modelling, MIC-HUB defined the most efficient solution for the accesses by producing a design that allows major car flows to enter and move within the car park compound with no traffic conflicts.

Particularly challenging was the development of the complex system of cascading ramps running along the perimetral wall conceived to reach the bottom level of the car park with the maximum of comfort, safety and speed.
